FIVE FOUND MURDERED AFTER REBELS ABDUCT TRUCKERS

COTABATO CITY, Aug. 25  -- Five people have been found
murdered near this city two days after Moro Islamic Libreation
Front (MILF) guerrillas abducted six truckers.

Police said two of the murdered victims were identified as among the truckers abducted by the MILF here on Aug. 22, Army spokesman Maj. Julieto Ando said.

The three other dead bodies were unidentified.
Hungry MILF members hijacked two trucks near the town of Buluan in the mistaken belief that they carried rice, Ando said.

When they found out the vehicles carried feedstock, they
abducted the drivers and truck helpers. The five men were found shot to death on Aug. 24 not far from were the vehicles were abandoned.

Ando said MILF units have experienced logistical problems since
switching to guerrilla warfare after the military seized all their
training bases in Mindanao in the four months to July. (SNS)

PARENTS OF PINAY
IN CRASH OFF TO BAHRAIN

MANILA, Aug. 25  -- The parents and brother of Maria
Bernadette Bal, the lone Filipina who perished in the crash of Gulf Airbus A320 flight GF-072, left for Bahrain to claim the body of the flight stewardess.

The couple, Antonio and Angela Bal, and their son, Jose
Gabriel, left at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 on board Gulf Air flight GF-115
bound for Muscat.

In an interview with airport reporters, the Bals said they
were shocked over the incident.

It was learned that Maria Bernadette was the couple's only
daughter. Maria Bernadette was among the 143 passengers who died in the crash.

It was gathered that Bernadette arrived in the Philippines
last Aug. 11 for a vacation. She left Manila Aug. 18. Her friends said she was in high spirit when she boarded the plane.

Eric Ines, Gulf Air station manager at NAIA, said the company
would extend all financial support to the bereaved family.

All the bodies of the passengers were already retrieved,
according to Bahrain authorities, but the cause of the crash was still not known. (SNS)
