U.S. charges couple in scheme to hold Filipino workers in
forced labor
|
This case is being prosecuted by trial attorney Susan French of the
Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit of the Justice Department's Civil
Rights Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Shaniek Maynard of the
Southern District of Florida.
“We thank the various U.S. government agencies handling the case,”
stated ConGen Macatangay.
“Most specially the Filipino organizations who
worked with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in providing financial and
food assistance before the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking
(FCAHT) came to assist and take care of the Filipino workers.”
|
|
|
The FCAHT provided housing, financial assistance, education and food to
enable the Filipino workers to get back on their feet.
The organization
was created in 2004 by Anna Rodriguez, who has extensive experience in
how to identify victims, provide advocacy, and understand how to pursue
justice for victims based on her experience in law enforcement,
assistance for prosecution, and active participation delivering the
human trafficking case law.

|
"We are thankful for the extra efforts of Anna Rodriguez in helping the
Filipino workers recover and be on their feet again," stated Dr.
Macatangay. "The role of Ms. Rodriguez and FCAHT are crucial in helping
victims of human trafficking."
“The efforts of the Philippine Honorary Consulate on this case reflect
the strong efforts of the Philippine government in clamping down on
human trafficking," stated ConGen Macatangay. “We did this with the
support of Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Willy C. Gaa.” (With
