The plight of the Filipino workers surfaced in
January 2008 when some of the workers went to
church service in Palm Beach County. While at
the church, they chanced on the contact
information of the Philippine Honorary Consulate
in South Florida. The workers sought the help of
a Filipino community leader to reach Honorary
Consul General Angelo S. Macatangay, M.D.

“On being informed that Filipino workers were
allegedly being abused we set in motion the
steps necessary for their protection,” said Dr.
Macatangay.
“We cannot express details as it is
ongoing, however, we hope that this case
discourages others from abusing the recruitment
process.”
