FILAM DINNER DANCE

HOW TO ORGANIZE A SUCCESSFUL EVENT

It is common to hold dinner dances to socialize and promote a cause and organizing it can be simple or complex depending on its objective.

Most Filipino Americans utilize dinner dances to raise funds to benefit a cause, charity, or their organizational objectives. Filipino families also hold dinner dances, in the case of debutantes, to formally introduce their children into society.

For the 18th Sampaguita Ball in Tampa, tickets were sold out and many were turned away. "We felt bad we had to turn away so many," said Helen Piloneo, chair of the event. "Our Sampaguita committee members worked so hard, all tickets were sold."

"Whatever the objective is, most important is planning," said Mrs. Lucy Bautista. "The satisfaction of guests and meeting the organization's objectives are a must."

Mrs. Bautista, longtime planner and officer of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) of Tampa is a long time volunteer in holding the Sampaguita Ball. For those who have not been to one, it is probably among the most elegant annual balls with a robust cultural and entertainment presentation. The event is held at the magnificent Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on the 10-acre grounds of the Philippine Enrichment Complex. The property is owned and operated by the PCFI.
