Miss Florida Asia 2007 Crowned



MIAMI, (Basta Pinoy News) -- One of South Florida's most anticipated events concluded at the North Miami Beach Performing Arts Theater last July 21st as a prestigious panel of judges chose Xiaozhen You, representing China, as MISS FLORIDA ASIA 2007.

Ms. You, born in Fujian, China, speaks fluent Mandarin and English. She is in her second year of a Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University and is looking forward to a career as a medical engineering research director. Her taste for the arts include watching musicals, singing and dancing, which she has been involved since she was 4.

In a night of classy entertainment and glamour the contestants started the night with a performance of a modern Chinese group dance. The competitions started on-stage with each contestant presenting their National Costume and introducing themselves.

The judging panel who based their decisions on post-Pageant Interview, National Costume, Swimsuit, Talent, Evening Gown and onstage questions, included Ricardo Allicock, Consul General of Jamaica to the Southern United States; Dr. John Chang, surgeon; Dr. Antonio Wong, family physician; Quan Anh Cao, English professor; Al Yee, Vice President of OCA Phoenix Chapter; and Albert Posillico, Executive
Director of Miss Latina International.


Crowing the winners were Diana Morejon, Miss Teen Latina International, Esther Dollar,Miss Latina
International US, and Vivian Perez, Miss Latina International 2006.

The final results: Miss Florida Asia 2007, Xiaozhen You (China); 1st Princess, Yueting Wu (China); 2nd Princess, Hong-Thuy Nguyen (Vietnam); Best National Costume, Hong-Thuy Nguyen (Vietnam); Best in Swimsuit, Xiaozhen You (China); Miss Photogenic, Dongfei Shang (China); Best Evening Gown, Dongfei
Shang (China); Best in Talent, Yueting Wu (China).

With the titles, the winners also received scholarship prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively. In addition, they received tickets to the 12 Girls Band World Tour from Broward Center for the  Performing Arts. Ms. Angela Posillico, President of Miss Latina International Pageant System, offered an invitation to Miss Florida Asia to participate at its upcoming Miss Latina International Pageant in November.

"The mission of Miss Florida Asia is to embrace the diverse Asian culture with beauty," stated Winnie Tang, producer of Miss Florida Asia 2007. "The main goal is to help Asian American women increase their cultural awareness and nurture them to be future leaders."

The Miss Florida Asia 2007 was co-hosted by the Organization of Chinese Americans South Florida Chapter and the United Chinese Association of Florida.

The production committee members included Johnson Ng, director; Tommy Lam, stage manager; Ann Yu, pageant manager; Igor Ellis, Logistics Manager; Kam Wong, audio visual manager; Wendy Fong, artistic director; Sunny Tsai, cosmetic director; Harriet Young, image director; Ann Li, hairstyle consultant; Gene Li and Bertho Boman, photographers; C. Tony Mok and Susan Xu, auditors; April Chang, judging panel coordinator; Miguel Venezuela, lighting; Diana Burney and Eileen Liu, graphic designers; Indra Bosko and Mee Pang, mistresses of ceremonies; Kevin Lam, Zifay Lee, contestant ushers; Juliet Chan, Rudy Lue Yen, Philip Pang, pageant assistants; and community volunteers.
