Philippine Embassy Hosts Meeting with Filipinos in
Bucharest, Romania
|
|
10 August 2007 – The Philippine Embassy in Bucharest
hosted a meeting with the Filipino community on 03
August 2007. The meeting was attended by 40 Filipinos.
|
Ms. Ma. Teresita C. Daza convened the meeting as the new
Consul General and concurrent CDA of the Embassy.
The
meeting provided an opportunity for the community to
share its concerns and discuss possible joint projects.
Among the projects identified were: the formation of an
association, the preparation of a manual that will
present some essential tips and information for new
comers in Romania and possible informal sessions on
information and skills sharing and exchange.
The response to these plans was positive and
encouraging.
To quote one Filipino who wrote the Embassy soon after,
"I hope we can have more gatherings on a regular basis.
I think everyone will agree with me that the event
boosted our spirits; that we can bind to care for each
other and to give support. Parang therapy sa aming
nalulungkot at pakiramdam ay walang dumadamay dahil
konti lang tayo dito". |
|
According to the Ministry of Interior, as of June 2007,
there are 51 Filipinos in Romania. This does not include
Embassy personnel and family members. These Filipinos
are found in hotels working as chefs and hotel staff; in
companies as HRD, IT and marketing consultants; nuns in
the Augustinienele Monastery, household helps and
drivers in Snagov; spouses of Romanians and seamen.
