 BASTA PINOY! ENTERTAINMENT REVIEW

Robin worried about fellow Muslims
MANILA, Sept. 19 -- Action superstar Robin Padilla said he is worried about his fellow Muslims who are bearing the brunt of last week's terrorist attacks on the United States. In an interview, Padilla said he is concerned with the possible indiscriminate crackdown on Muslims who have become the target of a hate campaign.

"The monitoring of Muslim areas in Metro Manila and in Mindanao by authorities is alarming. I'm also worried about the possibility of war," he said.

Padilla said he would only believe that Muslims are behind the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon if the US government produced solid evidence. The actor, who has not directly denounced the bandit Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), claimed that his initiative to establish an educational foundation for Muslims is a clear sign that he is against violence in Mindanao.

In April 2000, Padilla, along with then TV host Noli de Castro, was able to bring down two child hostages from the hinterlands of Basilan after they negotiated with the bandits. Once dubbed as Philippine cinema's Bad Boy, Padilla successfully revived his acting career late 1998 after serving three years of a 17-year sentence for illegal possession of firearms.

He renounced Catholicism for Islam while in prison. Currently one of the local film industry's busiest action stars, 29-year-old Padilla is also seen regularly in ABS-CBN's
top-rating weekly sitcom "Pwedeng-Pwede."
