Trade Delegation Place Philippines on Florida's Economic Map |
MIAMI, OCT 1, 2006 (Basta Pinoy News) -- A
19-person trade delegation arrived from the Philippines last
week to promote the country as a global resource provider.
Assistant Secretary for International Trade Felicitas Agoncillo-Reyes headed the delegation.

After concluding the first leg of its business
networking tour in New York the team of business decision
makers and executives from among the Philippines leading
corporations arrived in Florida.
“This is a ground-breaking initiative by the Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI),” said Hon. Consul General for
South Florida Dr. Angelo S. Macatangay.

After concluding the first leg of its business
networking tour in New York the team of business decision
makers and executives from among the Philippines leading
corporations arrived in Florida.

South Florida Dr. Angelo S. Macatangay.
A business forum with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce
(GMCC) organized by DTI NY Trade Representative Josephine
Romero with the assistance of ConGen and Mrs. Macatangay
geared to a positive start and promising developments.

Key trade organizations participated in the forum held at
the GMCC office. These include Enterprise Florida, the
Beacon Council, and top executives of GMCC. Each participant
identified their organization and services it provides and
how it would benefit clients.
Sec. cillo-Reyes opened up with brief
presentation of the positive economic climate and
opportunities in the Philippines. The forum concluded with
optimistic developments as hosts and visitors agreed to
follow through on an invitation to return the visit to the
Philippines by next year.
Ms. Romero emphasized that the U.S. could benefit
tremendously from information technology services offered by
the Philippines, which has been well known as a competitive
global resource provider.
“We look forward to visiting the Philippines by end of last
quarter of next year,” stated Ralph Gazitua, Chairman of
GMCC’s International Business Group.
“It is apparent that Florida and the Philippines are the
places to be in the future,” said Llona Vega Jaramillo,
Manager of International Business Development, Enterprise
Florida.
“We’re excited with the opportunies ahead,” Said Randy
Fairbank, GMCC Vice President for Strategic Marketing and
E-Commerce.” |

ConGen Macatangay expressed satisfaction on the positive
outcome of the forum. “We thank Mr. Randy Fairbank and GMCC
for inviting participants to submit their business
information for inclusion on the award-winning GMCC
website.”
Mr. Walter A. Loy of the Board of Governors of GMCC and
moderator of the forum invited the Philippine delegation to
come back.Sec. Agoncillo-Reyes stated that it was a great
experience that the meeting opened up valuable trade
opportunities between Florida and the Philippines.
The trade delegation established further opportunities at a
business forum attended by U.S. business representatives in
Fort Lauderdale the following day. A reception held at the
residence of ConGen Macatangay that evening saw more U.S.
business representatives engage the delegation. A
prominent political and business figure, Belinda Keiser,
originally from Abuyog, Leyte was invited by ConGen
Macatangay to meet the delegation. Ms. Keiser's family owns
the Keiser College which has 22 campuses around Florida.
The trade delegation's visit to Florida was capped by a
visit and tour of Keiser College's campus in Fort Lauderdale
where they were warmly welcomed by the Keiser family.
The group will visit Chicago and Denver next week to meet
