After concluding the first leg of its business networking tour in New York the team of business decision makers and executives from among the Philippines leading corporations arrived in Florida.

“This is a ground-breaking initiative by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI),” said Hon. Consul General for South Florida Dr. Angelo S. Macatangay.

A business forum with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) organized by DTI NY Trade Representative Josephine Romero with the assistance of ConGen and Mrs. Macatangay geared to a positive start and promising developments.

Key trade organizations participated in the forum held at the GMCC office. These include Enterprise Florida, the Beacon Council, and top executives of GMCC. Each participant identified their organization and services it provides and how it would benefit clients.

Sec. cillo-Reyes opened up with brief presentation of the positive economic climate and opportunities in the Philippines. The forum concluded with optimistic developments as hosts and visitors agreed to follow through on an invitation to return the visit to the Philippines by next year.

Ms. Romero emphasized that the U.S. could benefit tremendously from information technology services offered by the Philippines, which has been well known as a competitive global resource provider.

“We look forward to visiting the Philippines by end of last quarter of next year,” stated Ralph Gazitua, Chairman of GMCC’s International Business Group.

“It is apparent that Florida and the Philippines are the places to be in the future,” said Llona Vega Jaramillo, Manager of International Business Development, Enterprise Florida.

“We’re excited with the opportunies ahead,” Said Randy Fairbank, GMCC Vice President for Strategic Marketing and E-Commerce.”

The trade delegation established further opportunities at a business forum attended by U.S. business representatives in Fort Lauderdale the following day.  A reception held at the residence of ConGen Macatangay that evening saw more U.S. business representatives engage  the delegation.  A prominent political and business figure, Belinda Keiser, originally from Abuyog, Leyte was invited by ConGen Macatangay to meet the delegation.  Ms. Keiser's family owns the Keiser College which has 22 campuses around Florida.

The trade delegation's visit to Florida was capped by a visit and tour of Keiser College's campus in Fort Lauderdale where they were warmly welcomed by the Keiser family.

The group will visit Chicago and Denver next week to meet business and community leaders. (BASTA PINOY NEWS)
